Summary
- Laurel completed her Bachelors Degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and her Masters Degree in pediatric nursing at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 1995. She earned a post-masters certificate as a Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist in 2019.
Once she completed her training, Laurel worked at Oakland Children’s Hospital and then Boston Medical Center caring for children and adolescents with chronic illnesses. She moved to the Twin Cities in 1999 and spent the next 20 years working as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Children’s Hospital of Minnesota. Laurel has worked extensively with children who have experienced abuse. She developed a subspecialty interest in adolescent health and is an expert on how families can foster resiliency for their children and adolescents.
Laurel uses a collaborative approach in her practice. She works closely with her patients and their parents to assess, diagnose, and treat ADHD, PTSD, chemical dependency, and mood disorders. Additionally, Laurel is trained in the medical management of adolescents and young adults with substance abuse disorders. She provides medication-assisted treatment with Suboxone/Bupinorphine. Laurel believes in establishing a therapeutic alliance with all of her patients. She works with each family to develop the best evidence-based treatment strategies to meet their identified goals.
