  • Dr. Laura Roberts serves as Chairman and the Katharine Dexter McCormick and Stanley McCormick Memorial Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine and is the Psychiatrist-in-Chief for Stanford Health Care.  

    Dr. Roberts has elevated and grown her department, which has attained prominence nationally and internationally for its extraordinary contributions in basic, translational, clinical, and implementation science and in novel therapeutics, for its exceptional multidisciplinary and subspecialty clinics and services, for its outstanding education and community engagement programs, and for its portfolio of Special Initiatives of the Chair. Dr. Roberts is a physician-scientist and an internationally recognized scholar in bioethics, psychiatry, medicine, and medical education. Dr. Roberts' early work elevated the perspectives of key stakeholders in psychiatric research, engaging with individuals with lived experience of mental and physical disorders, investigators, community members, and policymakers.

    Dr. Roberts is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Academic Medicine, and has served in this role since 2020.  From 2002-1019, Dr. Roberts served as the Editor-in-Chief for the journal Academic Psychiatry.  Dr. Roberts is also the Editor-in-Chief for the Books Division of the American Psychiatric Association and has served in this role since 2016.  Dr. Roberts is an editorial board member and peer reviewer for many scientific and education journals.
     
    Dr. Roberts has written more than 500 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and other scholarly works.  She has written or edited, as of today, 36 books and major texts in the areas of clinical psychiatry, academic career development, professionalism and ethics in medicine, and physician wellbeing

    Dr. Roberts is Board Certified in general psychiatry.
