Overview of Dr. Allen
Dr. Larry Allen is the Associate Division Head for Clinical Affairs in Cardiology, Medical Director of Advanced Heart Failure, Co-Director of the Colorado Program for Patient Centered Decisions, and holds the Kenneth Poirier Chair in Medicine at the University of Colorado. Dr. Allen’s interests include improving our ability to anticipate progression into end-stage heart failure and then helping patients make tough choices regarding invasive therapies and palliative care options. Dr. Allen recently completed the PCORI-funded multicenter trial of decision support for patients and their caregivers offered a left ventricular assist device (the DECIDE-LVAD trial) as well as an American Heart Association Network Award investigating tools to increase patient engagement around heart failure medication prescribing (the EPIC-HF trial). Meanwhile, Dr. Allen keeps himself clinically grounded by regularly seeing patients with heart failure, LVADs, and transplants, and is consistently voted as one of Denver’s “Top Doctors” in 5280 Magazine.
