- Kyle Xu, M.D., is Director of University of Miami Comprehensive Lymphedema Center and assistant professor of plastic surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Xu earned his B.S. at the University of Maryland, College Park where he graduated Cum Laude with Honors. He earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his combined residency in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Xu continued his education and completed a fellowship in hand surgery and microsurgery at the world-renowned Buncke Clinic in San Francisco considered to be the birthplace of microsurgery. He worked with international leaders in plastic surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery.
Most recently, Dr. Xu was on faculty at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He led the development of the first and only comprehensive lymphedema center in the St. Louis region and helped grow the hand and microsurgery program specializing in complex arm and leg reconstruction, and limb preservation. His passion in teaching earned him the Division of Plastic Surgery Teaching Award.
Dr. Xu specializes in hand and wrist surgery, complex arm and leg reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery, limb preservation, replantation, and microsurgical treatment for lymphedema. He performs supermicrosurgery lymphovenous bypass, vascularized lymph node transplant, and liposuction to help patients with lymphedema. Dr. Xu practices medicine valuing cura personalis, a Latin phrase meaning “care of the whole person.”
In his personal life, Dr. Xu loves to travel, enjoy the outdoors, try new foods, explore museums, and cultural festivals with his wife and two daughters. He also enjoys exercising and brazilian jiu jitsu.
