- Dr. Kyle Smith is a neurosurgeon at Semmes-Murphey Clinic. Originally from Norfolk, Nebraska, he has grown-up in the midwest and has completed education at the University of Nebraska. He completed his general neurosurgery residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He offers a broad range of experience and training in neurosurgery and maintains special interests in minimally-invasive spine surgery (MIS), new technologies in neurosurgery, complex spine and deformity surgery, and cranial and spinal oncology (tumors). Dr. Smith strives to utilize minimally-invasive techniques and latest technologies such as robotic spine surgery, when able, to improve surgery and patient care.
During his 7-year residency, he contributed extensive clinical research publishing over 38 papers on spine surgery, movement disorders (Parkinson's, tremor, dystonia), brain tumors, and patient care quality improvement. He has also authored several book chapters and numerous presentations on various topics in neurosurgery. During training he has received multiple honors and awards for research presentations and for academic performance (e.g. among Top Ten scores in the US for the ABNS Board-Certification Written Exam).
He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, AANS/CNS Joint Section of Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, and the North American Spine Society.
