- Dr. Kumar Sharma is Chief of Nephrology at UT Health San Antonio and Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and has been in academic medicine for 32 years. He is had continuous NIH funding for the past 30 years in the areas of diabetic nephropathy, obesity, clinical trials, multi-omics and mitochondrial dysfunction. He is presently funded by the NIH, VA, JDRF and DOD for precision medicine programs in acute and chronic kidney disease, diabetic complications and multi-organ injury and is the Director of the Center for Renal Precision Medicine at UTHSA.
