Dr. Gordon-Achebe received her MD from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and she completed her residency in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Tulane University. She maintains academic faculty affiliation with Tulane University. She currently serves as the President of the Caucus of Black Psychiatrists of the American Psychiatric Association and Vice-Chair for Council for Children Adolescents and Their Families. She has extensive experience in public psychiatry both in outpatient and inpatient sectors, having served as consultant for school based mental health, co-director for an ADHD/Trauma child and adolescent specialty clinic, and medical director of a residential treatment center. She maintains her commitment to psychiatric education by mentoring and teaching Tulane University School of Medicine and University of Maryland psychiatry trainees. Her core work is comprised of treating at-risk minority youth with challenging biopsychosocial issues in correctional and school settings.
Dr. Gordon-Achebe served the APA as President for the Caucus of Black Psychiatrist, APA Vice-Chair of the Council for Children, Adolescents and Their Families and as member of the APA’s Membership Committee.
