Summary

  • Dr. Kim Lu joined OHSU in August of 2005. He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery. In addition to his tenure at OHSU, Dr. Lu also serves as a consulting colorectal surgeon for the Veteran’s (VA) Hospital. He is board certified in both Colon and Rectal and General Surgery. He specializes in colon and rectal surgery, including colon, rectal, and anal cancer, as well as inflammatory bowel disease. He has had advanced training in minimally-invasive laparoscopic colorectal surgery. His research interests include colorectal surgery outcomes, hereditary colon cancer, fecal incontinence, rectal cancer, laparoscopy, and colonoscopy simulation in training.

    Dr. Lu completed his medical training at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, MA. and his surgical and colon and rectal surgery residencies at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, MO. He obtained his certificate in the Human Investigations Program from OHSU in 2008.

    In addition to his clinical efforts, Dr. Lu has a strong interest in medical student, resident, and surgical fellow education. Institutionally, he is currently the Program Director for the OHSU Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship, beginning his service in 2009. He is also a member of the Women in Academic Medicine Committee, serving on both the Mentoring Subcommittee and the School of Medicine Diversity Task Force. Nationally, he serves as a Group Leader for question writing for examination boards for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, is a member of both the Oral Examination and Written Examination Committees for the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and as an Examination Consultant to the Certifying Committee for the American Board of Surgery. He is an author or contributor to over 60 publications, including peer reviewed articles, review articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and is a sought after invitee institutionally, regionally, and nationally to lecture on various topics regarding colon and rectal surgery.
