He completed his fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Colorado and his internship and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at Harlem Hospital Center and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons after graduating from Baylor College of Medicine in 1983. He has served on faculty at The Ohio State University from 1990 through 2020. Since 2020, he has been serving as the Section Chief at Dell Medical Center at The University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Hackshaw has contributed to many publications primarily focusing on neuropathic pain mechanisms, and novel translational studies focusing on biomarker development in central sensitization syndromes like Fibromyalgia. This work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health. His scholarly work has been cited by numerous other publications.
