Research History
- Medical Student Researcher in Anesthesiologywith Eugene Viscusi: Retrospective analysis of early ketamine infusion after limb amputation; Prospective study on impact of baseline opioid use, addiction, stress, & coping on perioperative pain ratings & analgesic requirements following total knee or hip replacement2015 - 2016
- Visiting Researcher (continued work off-site) at Cleveland Clinic Neurological Center for PainInvestigating pain and chronic opioid use with Dr. Edward Covington and Dr. Judith Scheman. Clinical pain research 2 new IRB protocols: 1) Retrospective study of outcomes of long-term (>1 year) chronic opioid therapy 2) Prospective analysis of PTSD, stress, & coping & outcomes from pain rehab pts2014 - 2015
- PhD dissertation work with Dr. Elisabeth Van Bockstaele and Dr. Bob SterlingI studied the impact of stress on opioid dependence recovery in MMT and a novel mu-opioid receptor interacting protein that could be a target for future pain and addiction therapeutics. Electron Microscopy & imaging in rat model opioid addiction + Salivary Cortisol & psych work in methadone pts2011 - 2013
- PhD StudentUnder Dr. Michael O'Leary I studied the effects of STZ induced diabetic neuropathy in rat dorsal root ganglion neurons. Specifically I looked at electrophysiological and mRNA changes in voltage gated sodium channels.2009 - 2011
- PhD Rotation StudentUnder Dr. Raymond Regan I worked on a in-vitro cell culture model of hemolysis and clot lysis that mimics hemorrhagic stroke. We investigated the role of glia in blood clot toxicity to neurons in a co-culture system and the viability of this model to do preliminary screening for stroke intervention2008 - 2009
- Research AssistantUnder Dr. M. Buck through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program I studied “Using Coiled Coil Fusion Proteins to Investigate the Function of the Plexin Receptor Involved in Blood Vessel Guidance”. I received additional funding from the American Heart Association fellowship to prolong fellowship2006 - 2006
- Research AssistantUnder Dr. J. Moore and Dr. V Pandey through the Chester Summer Scholars Program I studied the “Comparison of Repetitively Stretched Human Fetal Membranes from Spontaneous Vaginal Deliveries and Caesarian Sections”. I presented this research at two poster presentations and contributed to the publicat2005 - 2005
