- Dr. Keith Meyer, currently based in Middleton, WI, is a professor of medicine with tenure who retired from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2021 and holds emeritus status. He continues to engage in scholarly endeavors as an Honorary Fellow of the UW Department of Medicine. He is a pulmonologist with board certification in internal medicine, pulmonology, and critical care medicine. A Milwaukee native, he served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974. He received his Bachelor Degree (Zoology) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1975 and a Master Degree (Zoology) from UWM in 1978. He completed his medical education at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health, followed by a residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. Areas of expertise include lung transplantation (he was medical director of lung transplantation at UW from the time of its inception and for decades thereafter), cystic fibrosis (he was medical director of the Adult CF Program at UW), interstitial lung disease (he led the ILD Program at UW for decades), lung immunology, lung aging, and general pulmonology. He was an attending physician at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and the Madison Middleton Veterans' Administration Hospital. He has authored multiple publications on topics such as interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis lung disease, lung transplantation, lung immunology, pulmonary infection, sepsis, albumin misfolding (as related to Alzheimer disease pathogenesis or sepsis pathogenesis), and various clinical practice guidelines. The majority of his work is highly cited. During his tenure as Professor of Medicine at UW, Dr. Meyer led over 60 clinical trials that focused on respiratory infections, treatment of cystic fibrosis lung disease, treatment of pulmonary fibrosis, and lung transplantation.
