- Dr. Kavita Sharma is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Director of Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, and Director of the JHU Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF) Program. Her clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and management of patients with heart failure, ranging from ambulatory heart failure to advanced heart failure including heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Under her leadership, the Hopkins heart transplant program has performed the highest number of heart transplants per year in its history in 2024. The JHU HFpEF program is one of the largest clinical and research HFpEF programs in the country; Dr. Sharma has led national and international clinical trials in HFpEF and leads a large clinical-translational research program in HFpEF including many first in human myocardial tissue studies. She has received grant funding from the American Heart Association, NIH, Amgen, and institutional sponsored grants.
