Overview of Dr. Brown
Dr. Brown served as Interventional Radiology Section Chief and Professor of Radiology at the University of Utah from June of 2019 through May of 2022. She worked at both the Huntsman Cancer Center and University of Utah Hospital with a primary focus on updating the workflow and improving clinical care through the implementation of standard operating procedure following best practice guidelines. Prior to that, Dr. Brown was an Attending Radiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 27 years, with appointment as Professor of Clinical Radiology at Weil Medical College. While at MSKCC she established a national as well as international reputation in the field of Interventional Oncology. She is a founding member of Society of Interventional Oncology & a fellow in the Society of Interventional Radiology. Her primary clinical focus has been on hepatobiliary intervention, with particular interest in local/regional therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). She is known to be a strong proponent of using embolization with particles/microspheres alone as primary treatment for HCC and for secondary liver tumors, including metastatic neuroendocrine tumor. She was the PI on an NIH supported, prospective, randomized trial of trans-arterial treatment for HCC, the results of which were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2016. Dr. Brown sees herself as a clinician educator, and considers sharing her experience with others at meetings, conferences and in the interventional suite as important for the exchange of ideas and the growth and development of the field. Despite her academic interests, her primary focus has always been on doing the best for patients in her care and making clinical decisions for them as she would for a family member. She hopes to focus time at the tail end of her career educating radiology trainees, sharing her experience with trainees and junior faculty, and mentoring the the Interventional Radiologists of the future.
