  • Dr. Kalantar-Zadeh (Dr Kalantar) is triple board certified in Internal Medicine (2028), Pediatrics (2027) and Nephrology (2029) by American Boards of Medical Specialties; he is professor and Nephrology chief at Harbor-UCLA since 2023 and former UCI Nephrology chief (2012-2022). Dr Kalantar has a Master's degree (MPH) and PhD in public health from UC Berkeley; and provides patient care at Harbor-UCLA and affiliated institutions in Southern California including Long Beach VA, Fresenius, DaVita, and more. He is nationally and internationally renowned for conservative and preservative management of kidney disease by dietary interventions. He is also recognized for pioneering incremental dialysis transition in California, USA, and globally. As a recognized clinician (BEST DOCTORS, TOP DOCTORS, SUPER DOCTORS), Dr Kalantar has world class recognized expertise in management of patients with kidney disease. He has created the "Harold Simmons Center for Kidney Disease Research" to conduct patient-centered studies and to train pre- and post-doc students and fellows and early-career investigators. Dr. Kalantar has authored or coauthored more than 1,000 peer-reviewed articles, as well as several textbooks and many chapters. He is editor in chief of the Journal of Renal Nutrition, associate editor and/or an editorial board member of many peer-reviewed journals, and past president of several professional societies.
