Summary
- I am a fourth-year psychiatry resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where I currently serves as the education chief resident. I'm a professional member of the American Psychiatric Association, Illinois Psychiatric Society, and the Association for Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists.
My areas of clinical interest and expertise include LGBT mental health, community mental health, medical education, and early onset psychosis. During my training, I've completed the McGaw Clinical Scholar’s Certificate Program in Medical Education, where I participated in observed teaching, designed a scholarly project around creating a transgender mental health clinic, attended didactics on topics such as curriculum design, education philosophy, and medical education research, and created an educational portfolio which can be viewed here: https://kaitlynkunstman.weebly.com/.
I have achieved confidence in treating a variety of conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including but not limited to depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, psychosis, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. I have spent six months each in the neuropsychiatric, trauma therapy, first break, and recovery from early psychosis specialty psychiatry clinics. During my time in the trauma clinic, I received supervision for provision of Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD. Additionally, I will have received twelve months of supervision in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression and anxiety disorders prior to graduation. I plan to complete a certification in electroconvulsive therapy later this year.
I would be most interested in a position that allows me to combine both my interest in clinical work and medical education. I would thrive in a position that allows me to combine my interest in acute inpatient clinical work and outpatient work, specifically with the LGBTQ community and with individuals with psychotic disorders.
