Summary
- I am a boards-certified, fellowship-trained adult spinal deformity neurosurgeon and visual artist, with a heart for health care trainee education and medical technology innovation.
Through my last 8 years of practice, I’ve seen doctors’ time and mechanisms to keep their knowledge current (and be confident they’re doing so) progressively erode. I love to solve problems, and I’m the patent-holding inventor of technology tools to chip away at this trend.
- A real time text-messaging scheme for mentors to evaluate residents on their achievement of training milestones (rather than depending on the mentors’ later recall)
- An time-saving automatic scribe tool that listens to the words a doctor speaks to a patient in an office visit and, through natural language processing, checks completeness, picks out the diagnoses and billing codes, and drafts the visit note in medical prose
I’ve crafted the curriculum and directed trainee writers of neurosurgical core didactic content, and led the construction of system of knowledge assessment and tracking using peer-generated quizzes.
In my other hand (the one not holding a surgeon’s scalpel), there’s an stylus pen. I’m a Youtube short-film-finalist cartoonist and animator, graphic storyteller and presenter of 30+ surgeon training seminars and proctored learning experiences on spine surgical techniques, using original technical and character-animation CAD content. If you need to learn it, I can draw it, build it, teach it and ensure you got it!
