Summary

• I am a general thoracic surgeon at University of Missouri and the Truman VA in Columbia, MO. My areas of clinical expertise are general thoracic surgery (adult and pediatric), malignant and benign conditions of the lung, esophagus, chest wall, mediastinum and pleura, with a focus on multidisciplinary thoracic surgical oncology at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. My research interest is in translational cancer research, my laboratory works collaboratively on development of liquid biomarkers (circulating tumor cells, circulating cell-free DNA, extracellular vesicles) and preclinical cancer models (organoid and animal models) for cancer patients with a focus on lung cancer. My translational research lab studying lung cancer is federally funded by the Department of Veteran Affairs (CSR&D Merit Award). In addition, we have several interventional clinical trials for lung cancer patients ongoing to test the clinical applicability of novel treatments, innovative liquid biomarkers in precision medicine oncology.
