Summary
- A proud resident of Houston for over 20 years, Dr. Joshua Coursey completed all of his higher education and medical training within the city. He received his general surgery training at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he was heavily involved in resident surgical education initiatives. After developing a keen interest in colon and rectal surgery, he went on to graduate the University of Texas at Houston Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery in 2016. In his surgical practice, Dr. Coursey has devoted himself to staying on the cutting edge of advanced minimally invasive surgery for malignant and benign diseases of the colon and rectum. As such, the vast majority of his procedures are performed using either robotic or single-incision laparoscopic approaches. Additionally, Dr. Coursey is a specialist in the treatment of malignant and benign anorectal disorders, pelvic floor disorders, and fecal incontinence. He is a devotee of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery practices, which help minimize patients’ postoperative pain and length of hospital stay. Throughout his medical career, Dr. Coursey has remained passionate about surgical education and is a clinical instructor for both minimally invasive colorectal surgery fellows and general surgery residents. Dr. Coursey’s research interests include applying modern simulation technology to surgical education and investigating surgical outcomes associated with advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Coursey is Board Certified in general surgery by the American College of Surgeons and in colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He resides in the Houston area with his wife and two girls. Outside of medicine, Dr. Coursey is an avid musician/guitarist and enjoys collaborating with his wife in photography and visual arts.
