Summary
- Dr. Burks is a neurosurgeon and current endovascular neurosurgery fellow at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
He completed neurosurgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital with focused training in cerebrovascular, endovascular, and skull base surgery. During this time he also enjoyed mentoring numerous medical students and residents, and was awarded Best Resident Teacher as Chief Resident.
Previously, Dr. Burks attended the University of Oklahoma as an undergraduate where he was named a member of Phi Beta Kappa and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. He subsequently obtained his medical doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. He also worked for a year there as the research coordinator for the department of neurosurgery where he gained a wide background in statistics and academic publishing.
His research focuses on understanding the pathophysiology of cerebral aneurysms to aid in the development of novel devices and techniques. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and has been awarded multiple grants from the NIH.
