Summary
- Joshua A. Beckman, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he holds the Gayle and Paul Stoffel Distinguished Chair in Cardiology. He also serves as the Chief of the Division of Vascular Medicine.
Dr. Beckman earned his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He received advanced training in cardiovascular medicine and vascular medicine through fellowships at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in American political history from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022. Previously, he served as Professor of Medicine and Section Director for Vascular Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University and as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Beckman is actively involved in several professional organizations, including the Society for Vascular Medicine, the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), and the Association of University Cardiologists. In addition, he is Chair of the AHA/ACC Joint Committee on Guidelines.
Dr. Beckman’s clinical and translational research focuses on the mechanisms that cause vascular dysfunction, susceptibility to atherosclerosis, and functional limitations in peripheral artery disease.
Dr. Beckman is a well-known educator, having received the Eugene Braunwald teaching award at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the W. Procter Harvey Young Teacher Award from the American College of Cardiology.
