  • Dr. Joseph Vella is division chief of facial plastic surgery at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical school as well as Program Director of the Otolaryngolgy-Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program. His responsibilities include co-director of the AAFPRS accredited Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship as well as co-director of the ACPA accredited Cleft and Craniofacial Center. He completed his fellowship in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University with Sherard Tatum. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and holds a PhD in Bioengineering from the same institution. Dr. Vella also earned a MS in Materials Science and Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Rochester. His expertise includes facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, rhinoplasty, facial paralysis, cranial vault remodeling, and facial reanimation surgery. He has authored publications on topics such as pediatric otoplasty, functional rhinoplasty, and iatrogenic cholesteatoma.
