Summary

• I am a native of Dubuque. I attended the University of Iowa, School of Medicine earning my MD in 1984. My first year of surgical training was completed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC. For the next 3 years I was a general medical officer in Darmstadt, Germany. In 1988, I returned to the University of Iowa to complete a residency in general surgery. To complete my military obligation, I was a staff general surgeon at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. In July 1994, I returned to Dubuque and practiced as a general surgeon with Dubuque Surgery, PC.
  
  On January 3, 2011, I opened the Tri-State Vein Center, PC. My practice is now limited to treatment of patients with varicose veins, venous reflux, and leg wounds. I strive to provide quality care for my patients. I am proficient with ultrasound. I am certified by Cardiovascular Credentialing InternationaI as a Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS). The Allinance for Physician Credenification & Advancement has awarded me the Registered Physician Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credentials. I became a diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine, passing the certifying examination in 2013. I have worked at obtaining the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) designation as a Vascular Testing Center - Peripheral Venous Testing. The Tri-State Vein Center is the first (IAC) accreditated Vein Center in the state of Iowa. In July 2017, I took the certifying examination of the American College of Wound Management and was awarded the credential of Certified Wound Specialist - Physician (CWSP).
  
  In January 2017 I began working as the contracted medical director for Health Corp. This is a division of Cottingham and Bulter Inc. I am directly involved in the preauthorization and post service claims process to determine medical necessity of different health care procedures. I help create policies concerning insurance coverage of procedures.
