  • Dr. Joseph Henske is a clinical endocrinologist and director of the diabetes program at UAMS. He graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with his medical degree in May 2004. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL in 2007. He completed his fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at Vanderbilt University in 2010. After fellowship, he worked in full-time clinical practice and served as the department chair of endocrinology for DuPage Medical Group in Chicago, IL until relocating to Little Rock to join UAMS in September 2019.

    Dr. Henske is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Diabetes Association and has been an active fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the subspecialty of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism.

    He is an associate professor at UAMS and is involved in the teaching and training of resident physicians and endocrinology fellows, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

    Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes himself at the age of 15, Dr. Henske has committed his life to helping others with diabetes better manage their disease and live life to the fullest. He is an advocate for diabetes awareness, helping improve access to medications and technologies for patients, and has been involved in research to one day find better ways to prevent, treat, and cure this disease. He has had a lifelong passion for running including having completed 13 marathons and encourages his patients to include exercise as a key component in the treatment of their diabetes. Outside the clinic he enjoys spending time with his wife Lauren, a Little Rock native, and their 5 young children.
