- Joseph Gorvetzian, MD, is an infectious disease specialist based in Albuquerque, NM. His education includes a fellowship in Infectious Disease from University of New Mexico School of Medicine and a residency in Internal Medicine at University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. Dr. Gorvetzian completed his medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 1985. His work particularly focuses on emerging infectious diseases. He has contributed to medical literature, with publications in Heliyon and Idcases. He was recognized with the Meaningful Use Stage 1 Certification from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in 2012.
He worked at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1991 until 2006. He established an ID Division at his clinic and hospital, and established a busy Travel Medicine clinic. He also developed a hepatitis C clinic, an HIV clinic, and an IV antibiotic clinic. He was very interested in antibiotic stewardship, and used to round with the hospital pharmacists in the 1990's to ensure appropriate antibiotic use in the hospital patients. He received recognition for Outstanding Physician of the year among the Physician Group of over 300 physicians in the multispecialty clinic.
He then joined Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine Associates, a group of ID physicians that provided services to most all of the hospital groups in town. He provided Infection Control services at several of the hospitals, and served on various committees over the years. He was president of his group until 2021.
