Summary

  • Dr. Joseph Franco knows that outstanding patient care requires thoughtful evaluation of the whole person–because the body is greater than the sum of its parts. At Franco Cardiology, P.C., he pairs this integrative approach to medicine with the latest innovations in cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment.
A Long Island native, Dr. Franco studied at Fordham University in the Bronx before attending the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of the New York Institute of Technology. During his post-graduate training Dr. Franco spent seven years at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, one of the busiest cardiac transplant and mechanical circulatory support centers in the country. He worked extensively in the pre- and post-operative care of patients with advanced heart failure and heart transplants. His commitment to medical student education and the training program earned him special recognition.
For advanced training in invasive and interventional cardiology, Dr. Franco attended Brown University’s Warren Alpert School of Medicine, where he gained special expertise in coronary angiography and intervention using the radial (arm) artery. This improves patient comfort, reduces complications, and provides earlier post-procedure mobility when compared with the traditional groin approach. In addition, radial artery catheterization reduces mortality in patients who have had a certain type of heart attack.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Franco continues to research and publish. Past work includes research on multivessel coronary revascularization and articles on cardiovascular outcomes as well as reduction of complications related to cardiac catheterization.
Dr. Franco is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology, and he has certification of special competence in adult echocardiography with proficiency in transesophageal echo. He maintains privileges at multiple hospitals in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
