Summary
- My experience has been very broad starting with by initial residency training in Pediatrics and International Health at Case Western Reserve University. This led to my 1st position in research at the Department of Human Nutrition at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and then my Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Children's Hospital Los Angeles 1999-2002. After training I took a position as Assistant Professor and researcher at the University of California holding academic positions and research space at UCSF and UCD. I was the Chair of the Fellowship Committee with our national society and in that guise crafted the 1st and 2nd Editions of the NASPGHAN Handbook. This was a web-based "navigatable" ebook for quick reference to the working pediatric gastroenterologist. I have acted as a reviewer for several 1st tier journals in medicine and in my field. I was elected a Fellow to the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2004. Subsequently, I completed a Therapeutic Endoscopy Fellowship in 2005 at Stanford University Hospital and started a dedicated Inflammatory Bowel Disorders and Endoscopy program in San Francisco. We were involved in several pivotal studies looking at treatment and the impact of diet in pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease and in 2009 i was elected to the Board of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation NW Chapter and became Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for CCFA from 2010 until my departure to become Division Chief at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston (2012). There we lifted the program into the top 50 (#38) of the national rankings (USNWR) and developed fellowship training programs for GI specialists and for further training of advanced practice nurses in pediatric nutrition care, one of the few in the country. Currently I serve as Chair of the Valley-Mount Sinai Children's Service at Valley Health System in northern New Jersey.
