They serve as Program Director for the innovative FHCW/UMass Chan Primary Care Psychiatry Fellowship, as well as the FHCW site Program Director for the MLCHC/UMass PMHNP Fellowship. They are the Course Co-Director of the Certificate in Advanced Mental Healthcare in Primary Care at the UMass Chan Center for Integrated Primary Care. They have expertise in complex and attachment trauma and are a Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Their other clinical and academic interests include perinatal psychiatry, OCD, eating disorders, cultural psychiatry, psychopharmacology, psychiatric nosology, anti-racism and oppression, gender-affirming care, patient-centered models of care, participatory community development, curriculum design, and multidisciplinary approaches to community psychiatry. Prior to their career in medicine, Dr. Howard-Young worked in community organizing, US healthcare policy, and public health.
