- Currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Geron Corporation, a publicly traded biotechnology company (NASDAQ: GERN). Also serves as the Chair of the Compensation Committee and as a member of the Audit Committee for Chiasma, Inc (NASDAQ: CHSM) and as the Chair of the Compensation Committee and as a member of the Audit Commitee for Cytomx, Inc (NASDAQ: CTMX). Previously was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Proteolix, a private biotechnology company in South San Francisco, CA which he merged in October 2009 with Onyx Pharmaceuticals, and a founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tercica, a publicly-traded biotechnology company (NASDAQ: TRCA), which he led through the IPO and a merger with Ipsen in 2008. Also the founder and CEO of Sensus Drug Development Corporation, which he led through its sale to Pharmacia in 2001, and co-founded Covance Biotechnology Services, Inc. (CBSI), a 450-person contract biologics manufacturing and process development business which was sold to Akzo Nobel’s Diosynth Division in 2001. Earlier in his career worked for McNeil Pharmaceuticals (Johnson & Johnson) and Novo Nordisk. Avocations include sports car racing, scuba diving, freediving and underwater photography.
