Summary

I am Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management, and Perioperative Medicine at Henry Ford Health in Detroit. I am also Professor and Vice Chair of Anesthesiology at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. I am involved with all aspects of teaching and educational innovation, including curricular design, education research, and leveraging technology in education.

I have been lucky to be supported and recognized as a teacher and education researcher. I was previously selected as Departmental Teacher of the Year by residents three times and received the S.Robert Stone Award for outstanding Medical Student Teaching from Harvard Medical School. I have received multiple grants to pursue topics in education research. My current areas of interest and publication include ultrasound simulation, feedback, and shaping resident performance through patient input.

I also am engaged as a mentor and collaborator in many education-related organizations. I enjoy mentoring other educators through the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA) education, research mentorship program and a member of the FAER Academy of Education Mentors in Anesthesiology. I serve as President for the SEA. As President of the Inter-Hospital Study Group, I help develop and refine the AKT exams. I examine for the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) oral exams. I also serve on the OSCE exam committee as a Vice Chair and led the development of the echo OSCE station for the ABA.
