Summary
- Dr. John M Huffman, MD is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (1994) with additional Pain Medicine Certification (1996). He completed his Anesthesiology Residency and Pain Medicine training at George Washington University Hospital. He was Chief Resident during his final year of training after which he remained on staff teaching as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine until 1997.
Prior to joining Virginia Hospital Center he served as Medical Director of Pain Management at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland for over 22 years where he was responsible for a staff of more than 25 medical professionals.
Dr. Huffman has extensive experience in all areas of Pain Medicine and has a special interest in Intrathecal Drug Delivery and Neuromodulation, both surgically implantable technologies for use in chronic pain treatment. He has taught and published extensively on interventional pain management techniques and chronic pain. He remains active in research and continuing medical education.
Dr. Huffman strongly supports a multi-disciplinary approach to patients suffering from chronic pain and recognizes the unique and individual nature of each patient’s pain and tailors their treatment accordingly. He believes in honesty and trust as the foundation of the patient-physician relationship.
