Summary
- I completed my Family Medicine residency in Erie, PA and a two-year Geriatric Medicine fellowship at the University of Cincinnati before joining the SUNY Upstate Medical Center 1988. In 1996 we moved our growing family from Syracuse to New Brunswick, NJ where I was program co-director of the geriatric medicine fellowship at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School for 15 years and served as Principal Investigator for the medical school's dementia clinical trials. I resigned from my RWJ tenured professorship in 2011, leaving academic medicine to establish the geriatric services division as chief of geriatrics within the private multispecialty Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights, NJ. After five productive years in that major clinical leadership role, I subsequently joined the Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington NJ to help expand that institution's subacute rehab facility linkages, assuming multiple medical directorships while performing consultative ambulatory dementia evaluations within their Center for Healthy Aging hospital-based practice. The devastating experiences of COVIC-19 within my NJ nursing homes traumatized me into reconnecting with academic medicine and I joined the geriatric medicine faculty of the Hackensack University Medical Center, based within their Neuroscience Institute's Center for Memory Loss and Brain Health for over 2 years. I have since left clinical practice and am engaged in continuing medical education as CORE curriculum faculty with the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care, revising curriculum and teaching in the AMDA Medical Director Certification program.
