Summary

  • Dr. Felder is a board-certified plastic surgeon with fellowship training in hand and nerve surgery, who has been in academic practice since 2015. He was driven to become a reconstructive surgeon after surviving a severe boat propeller injury in adolescence, requiring reconstructive surgery himself. He is nationally regarded for his innovative approach to complex reconstructive microsurgery and nerve surgery, as well as expertise in general reconstructive plastic surgery. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally on topics related to microsurgery and nerve surgery. He is the author of over 40 peer-reviewed articles and multiple book chapters. He moved to southeast Michigan from Washington University in St. Louis to help address the large unmet need for reconstructive surgery in this area. He now practices at Beaumont Royal Oak and Troy hospitals.

His particular interests include pain syndromes due to nerve injuries, brachial plexus injuries in children and adults, other nerve disorders of the upper and lower extremity such as foot drop and hand spasticity, microsurgical extremity and breast reconstruction, orthoplastic surgery, reconstruction of the head and neck, skin cancer reconstruction, diabetic and vasculopathic limb salvage surgery, and the care of amputees. He also performs general and microsurgical reconstructive surgery for a variety of problems throughout the body including cancer reconstructions such as sarcoma, unusual problematic wounds, reconstruction after traumatic injuries, and failed prior attempts at reconstruction. Dr. Felder does not practice cosmetic surgery, but brings a strong emphasis to optimizing aesthetic results of reconstructive surgery by creating uniquely tailored solutions for each patient.
