Summary

  • John O. L. DeLancey, MD is the Norman F. Miller Professor of Gynecology at the University of Michigan. A native of Ann Arbor, he is a graduate of Oberlin College and the University of Michigan Medical School. He has an active practice in managing difficult and refractory problems with pelvic organ prolapse and other pelvic floor disorders.

    For his for pioneering work on the causes, prevention, and treatment of Pelvic Floor Disorders, Dr. DeLancey was elected to membership in the National Academy of Medicine in 2012 (formerly the Institute of Medicine) and inducted as an Honorary Member of the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynecologists ad eundem in 2016. He has been President of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, American Urogynecologic Society and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons receiving the Distinguished Surgeon Award from the latter group.

    He and his group have conducted cutting-edge work identifying the basic mechanisms of pelvic floor disorders and their relationship to vaginal birth, published over 300 scientific papers, and been a key-note speaker in 30 countries on 6 continents. He has received over $24 million in NIH funding in 20 years to support his interdisciplinary research with biomechanical engineer James Ashton-Miller and nurse researcher Janis Miller.
