He is former President of the Medical Staff Inova Alexandria Hospital and former Chair of Department of Medicine.
He received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated Medical School at the age of 22 after completing a 5-year BS MD program in conjunction with Pennsylvania State University and Sidney Kimmel (Jefferson) Medical College Philadelphia. He completed an internship and residencies in Internal Medicine and Neurology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Cochran is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Neurology), the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology and the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
The Inova Fairfax Stroke program has been recognized as the best in the region and has won numerous awards. Dr Cochran speaks regionally and nationally on Stroke, Sleep Disorders, Concussion and Pain. He has been Principal Investigator in more than 100 studies in a variety of areas including stroke, headache, sleep, pain, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
