  • Joaquín J. Estrada, MD FACS FASCRS is a double board-certified Colon and Rectal Surgeon who serves as the section chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the surgical director of the Digestive Health Institute at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Dr. Estrada is an assistant clinical professor in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also serves as core teaching faculty at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospital Residency in General Surgery. He is also faculty in the department of surgery at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL.
    He has been an active member of local and national professional and scientific societies such as the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Chicago Surgical Society, and Chicago Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
    He is the one of the founders of the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA). MOLA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to working for career advancement, linguistic and cultural competency, personal wellness and reduced health disparities for the good of the entire Latino community.
    Dr. Estrada’s clinical activities have been funded by the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, Colon Cancer Coalition, the Retirement Research Fund and Boston Scientific. He has received over $100,000 in philanthropic grants.
    He has been awarded the Advocate Physician Partner’s Innovation Award for his work in increasing colorectal cancer screening rates. In 2017, Dr. Estrada was recognized for his compassionate approach to medicine and was awarded the Ramamoorthy Sundaresan Compassionate Care Award.
    Dr. Estrada is the author of more than 50 publications, invited manuscripts, abstracts and presentations.
