Overview of Dr. Shum
Jennifer Shum, MD is a board-certified neurologist and epileptologist at New York-Presbyterian Queens, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Shum completed her bachelor’s degree in biological engineering at Cornell University and her medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine. She did her neurology residency at Stanford Hospital, and her epilepsy fellowship at NYU Langone Hospital. Prior to joining New York-Presbyterian Queens, Dr. Shum was an Assistant Professor of Neurology at NYU Langone Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.
Dr. Shum has clinical interests in general neurology and epilepsy. She has specific interests in the surgical treatment of epilepsy, women’s issues in epilepsy, and how epilepsy can affect memory and language. She is an active member of the American Epilepsy Society and the American Academy of Neurology.
Dr. Shum has research interests in epilepsy and cognition. She has done cutting edge research using electrophysiological tools to better understand and treat epilepsy. She has received several research awards including the Whitaker Foundation Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering and the American Epilepsy Society Research Fellowship for Clinicians. She has multiple first author publications in top journals such as Neurology, Seizure, Journal of Neuroscience, and Nature.
