She also teaches extensively, educating medical, social work, and psychology trainees at all levels of training. She is committed to advancing the field of child and adolescent psychiatry through improving care delivery at a systemic level and has held multiple leadership positions allowing her to design new programming including psychiatric emergency consultation service lines, a med-psych inpatient unit, and psychiatric urgent care clinics. Dr. Downs also has multiple published works, among them articles in Hospital Pediatrics, Frontiers in Psychiatry, and Expert Review of Neurotherapeutics. She has presented repeatedly at the American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and speaks with local news outlets about topics of interest in child mental health.
