Summary

  • Born and raised on the Jersey Shore, Dr. Jeffrey Gruhler, MD graduated from Brown University with a BA in European History. There, he also cultivated a love for languages and studied Arabic. He then went to medical school at St George’s University in the West Indies and graduated cum laude. Jeff’s route to his virtually life-long passion for improving mental wellness was an indirect one. Initially, he pursued Anesthesiology residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine and delivered competent, compassionate anesthesia to many patients undergoing various surgical procedures, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and often used ketamine to induce anesthesia. However, what genuinely interested him the most was interacting with patients because he is a people person. Jeff graduated as Chief Resident from New York Medical College at Westchester Medical Center, and, thereafter, worked in the Pacific Northwest, first as a staff Psychiatrist in Kirkland, WA, and then as a Medical Director at a behavioral health facility in Vancouver, WA. Additionally, he delivered Telepsychiatry to patients in multiple states. Jeff is quite gratified to be back on the East Coast and is sincerely looking forward to working alongside his patients to improve their mental well-being by using various compassionate, patient-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment modalities, which could include psychotherapy, medication management, and Transmagnetic Stimulation (TMS). Guided by an evergreen love for learning, his passions include continuously learning about the best psychiatric treatments in his beloved vocation, as well as teaching medical students and fellows and imparting to them the importance of forging robust therapeutic alliances with our patients. It would be Dr. Gruhler’s honor to help you be your best, productive, and balanced self.
