Summary

  • As one of the founders of the field of neurocritical care - I have been dedicated to caring for the most complex neurological patients and advacing the field through provocative clinical research and educating students, residents, and fellows.

Although I was an accomplished academic neurologist, my primary passion is to help patients through extreme neurological problems with balanced, well-honed clinical expertise, patience, compassion, and treatment plans consistent with the life goals of each patient. Each patient receives my full attention to help him/her meet the challenges of neurological illness with wisdom and compassion.

One of my specific areas of expertise involves filling important gaps in the care of neurological and neurosurgical patients. This involves comprehensively reviewing a patient's clinical situation to assure that it is properly diagnosed and managed, the patient (and family) is fully educated about the problem, and rehabilitation is properly matched to the neurological injury the patient suffered and his/her desires for recovery and integration with his/her world.

In addition to my neurology clinical practice, I also provide Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for selected patients with depression and various other neurological disorders that may benefit from this exciting noninvasive treatment.

I welcome the opportunity to help neurological patients and work with referring doctors to affect the best care for their patients.
