Summary
- I am a professor of pathology, board-certified in AP/CP. Hematopathology and molecular pathologist with over 30 years of experience. I have dedicated my career to advancing the diagnosis and understanding of solid and hematopoietic tumors. My expertise spans clinical service and translational research, enabling me to bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and patient-centered care. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, I have ensured accurate diagnoses that guide optimal therapeutic strategies. This commitment fuels my passion for driving meaningful advancements in the field while maintaining a steadfast focus on improving patient outcomes.
Notably, I established CLIA/CAP-accredited hematopathology, flow cytometry, and molecular pathology laboratories at IMPATH. At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, I developed a molecular pathology laboratory within an academic setting, fostering a culture of excellence in research and clinical diagnostics. Additionally, I spearheaded the establishment and ACGME accreditation of the molecular genetic pathology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai, training over 20 fellows who now occupy leading positions in academia and industry. These experiences have honed my leadership in building high-performing teams and advancing molecular diagnostics.
My translational research portfolio reflects a lifelong pursuit of innovation in oncology. Leveraging clinical insights, I have tackled key challenges in tumor and tumor microenvironment, mechanisms of resistance to tyrosine kinase and immune checkpoint inhibitors, deep-tissue learning predictors of response to TKIs on routine H&E slides using computer-assisted image analysis using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in EGFR-mutation sensitive lung cancer. I developed novel diagnostic and predictive assays. With a unique blend of clinical expertise and research acumen, I am dedicated to improving cancer patient outcomes by integrating clinicopathological/genomics with AI and ML.
