Summary

  • I am very excited to join UTenn Health Sciences Center and the Semmes Murphey Clinic as an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery & Neurobiology and Director of Function Neurosurgery after spending more than a decade as the Director of Functional Neurosurgery at the Yale School of Medicine I specialize in surgical treatment for movement disorders, spasticity, epilepsy and pain. I am also a an internationally recognized expert in epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation in epilepsy. I also direct a wide range of clinical, translational and basic science research as head of the Neural Systems & Neuromodulation Laboratory of the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Our research, which is funded by the NIH and several private foundations, studies the neural and network mechanisms of epilepsy and movement disorders, consciousness, the cognitive and memory effects of these disorders and the development of novel treatment options with an emphasis on novel neuromodulation approaches and brain-computer interfaces. Our translational efforts range from the studying the mechanisms of consciousness, sensory and motor processing and cognitive and behavior testing with intracranial electrode recordings.
