Summary
- I am an acute care surgeon with expertise in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. This includes the management of trauma patients, as well as those who are acutely ill requiring an emergent operation. Further, my training in critical care at the University of Michigan gave me the opportunity to manage critically-ill patients and learn advance techniques in critical care including, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and continuous renal replacement therapy. Further, I have significant clinical interests in managing enterocutaneous fistulas. I am one of the two surgeons at Massachusetts General Hospital who created and currently staff the Surgical Intestinal Rehabilitation Clinic designed to manage patients with intestinal fistulas and short gut syndrome. Further, my research efforts are focused on improving care and outcomes in patients with enterocutaneous fistulas. Specifically, this includes identification of optimal timing and care of surgical management of enterocutaneous fistulas and what are the barriers to patients receiving optimal care.
