Summary

  • I am a board certified attending general surgeon at Kaiser Orange County since 2000. I graduated college with a double major in Physiology and Classical studies from UC San Diego in 1988. I played and was a starter in both singles and doubles women’s tennis while attending UCSD. I attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Being a native Californian, I came back to the state for my General Surgery residency at UC Davis East Bay starting in 1993. I was under the tutelage of my mentor Dr. Claude Organ. Between my 3rd and 4th years of residency, I did basic science research at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA for 2 years. I worked in the lab of Dr. Richard Ulevitch who was the Chairman for the Department of Immunology. Specifically, I performed research in an animal model to elucidate blocking gram negative sepsis at a receptor (CD14) level.

Since being at Kaiser OC, currently at our Irvine campus, I’ve had the privilege of being able to have a broad practice in general surgery. I have an interest in minimally invasive surgery, everything from hernia repairs to colon resections. I enjoy the freedom that Kaiser gives its providers with respect to being able to practice the way I feel is best for my patients. I order any test that I feel is appropriate and I get the freedom to mainly operate and take care of my patients. Having the ability to mainly be a clinician benefits my patients and my well-being. Taking care of our members is a privilege and a pleasure.
