Summary
- Retired General and Vascular Surgeon. First Surgeon to do laparoscopic cholecystectomy in CT, June 1990. I was in solo practice for 30 years, had an accredited vascular lab,Director of Wound Care Center. Did everything from thyroids, colon, vascular, hernia, trauma, breast etc and gradually saw the general surgeon practice be whittled away by super specialization. Very happy to be retired after seeing reimbursements for inguinal hernia surgery less than a plumber installing a toilet. Happy to play golf and enjoy my family and grandkids. I never billed a physician whether I knew them or not. Professional courtesy is a thing of the past. Sad to see physicians being called "health care providers". No more 2 o'clock in the morning calls to do three laparoscopic appendectomies on uninsured patients.
