Summary

  • My general training is in immunology and autoimmunity, with specific expertise in lupus, lupus nephritis, endothelial dysfunction, biomarkers and predictors of lupus nephritis outcomes and atherosclerosis in lupus, and the role of reactive intermediates in lupus nephritis and atherosclerosis. I have maintained a translational research laboratory and have developed a clinical research program as an integral member of the Medical University of South Carolina Lupus Erythematosus (MUSCLE) clinical research group and the CCCR P30 leadership. I have conducted multiple investigator initiated clinical studies and commercial clinical trials.

I am the Director of the MUSC the NIAMS P30 Core Center for Clinical Research (CCCR) and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Medicine. As the former Informatics Medical Director of Research and Reporting for the Medical University Hospital Authority, I was in charge of integration of clinical research processes into the electronic health record and governance of research data. Collaborations developed during the time of this Directorship have lead to projects on electronic phenotyping and prediction and outcome tools derived from medical record data.
Finally, I serve as Chair of the Division Directors Committee of the American College of Rheumatology. In this position, I collaborate with colleagues to address the most important issues facing division directors in our subspecialty.
