Summary
- Dr Jakub is a high volume surgical oncologist, with a primary focus on breast cancer and melanoma.
Dr Jakub has been an early adopter and championed dissemination of a number of novel surgical innovations. He has been recognized by receiving the Mayo Clinic Innovation in Education Award and Outstanding Course Directors for our Radioguided Breast Surgery course which has trained over 500 individuals; many of them adopting this new procedure into clinical practice. He is a leader in disseminating the novel technique of minimally invasive inguinal lymph node dissection for melanoma, for which he lead a 12 site multi-institutional trial melanoma. Dr Jakub is currently PI on a prospective trial investigating the role of axillary reverse mapping and lympho-venous bypass at the time of axillary lymph node dissection with the goal of preventing one of the greatest fears patients have of the operation, lymphedema. He is actively exploring the role of robotic breast surgery. He is the course director for a Mayo Clinic CME course Innovation, Disruptive Technologies and Early Adopters in Breast Cancer Care: Tomorrows Technologies Today as well as a co-course director for the highly successful Mayo Clinic Annual Practical Course in Dermoscopy & Update on Malignant Melanoma.
He feels very fortunate to be working in a physician lead organization with a large clinical volume, significant institutional infrastructure and a collaborative team approach whose primary value is the needs of the patients come first.
