Summary
- I am a vascular neurologist with over 20 years of patient care experience, as well as experience in basic and clinical research. My past laboratory work has focused on excitotoxic mechanisms of neuronal cell death pertinent to acute brain ischemia and degenerative diseases, and my current research interests are in using large clinical datasets to decipher mechanisms of recurrent stroke and to refine approaches for recurrent stroke prevention. My clinical interests focus on the treatment and prevention of stroke, and the management of diverse aspects of cerebrovascular disease, including carotid stenosis, intracranial arterial stenosis, intracranial aneurysms, hypercoagulable disorders, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and stroke in the young. I participate in several clinical trials in secondary stroke prevention. Currently I am Section Chief for Vascular Neurology, in the University of Chicago's Department of Neurology.
