- Dr. J Raymond DePaulo is a psychiatrist and University Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and did his internship in Medicine and Psychiatry Residency at Johns Hopkins. His clinical, teaching and research focus throughout his 45 years has remained in bipolar disorder and clinical forms of depression (mood disorders). He founded the Johns Hopkins Mood Disorders Clinics and Inpatient unit in 1977 and 1985 respectively. With Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison he founded & co-directed the Hopkins Mood Disorders Center since 2008. He was Henry Phipps Professor & Psychiatrist in Chief at Johns Hopkins from 2002-2016 and was President of the National Network of Depression Centers from February, 2016 through January 2022. His early research included clincial assessment lithium intoxication and the renal effects of lithium. His research team led many early studies in the genetics of bipolar disorder and depressive disorders dating from the 1980's.
