Summary
- I am a Board Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist interested in Anterior Segment Surgery, all Medical Ophthalmology, and particularly Tear Film Related Disorders, and Uveitis.
I routinely perform Refractive Cataract Surgery using the latest in multi-focal and Toric IOLs using Femtosecond-Assisted Laser Surgery. I also am certified to use MIGS such as istent and istent inject, and previously Cypass.
I am interested in Basic and Clinical Research and am always seeking for ways I can participate and help.
Prior to merging with LEVIN EYE ASSOCIATES I owned and run, SHALABY EYE ASSOCIATES, a very patient-oriented practice with an intentional Medium Volume Patient Load, so that every patient gets a very satisfactory personalized time with me and my associates.
Prior to obtaining my Medical Degree from Johns Hopkins, I was in Neuroscience Drug Discovery and Research, having worked for 5 years at Pfizer Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery. I obtained my Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Chicago, then did Postdoctoral work at The Rockefeller University in New York under the direction of Professor Paul Greengard, Nobel Laureate in Physiology and Medicine in 2000.
I am very interested and very excited in the recent developments of basic research in Ophthalmology and in Neuroscience.
I with several partners have developed a boutique, selective, Clinical Trials CRO called NEMA RESEARCH INC. (Incorporated in 2000), based in Naples, Florida. We are involved in Clinical Trials in every Medical field, but are concentrating on the role of Nutraceuticals and Herbal Compounds used for Medicinal purposes with the vision that soon these entities, as all pharmaceuticals, will require FDA approval prior to their marketing.
