- Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. She obtained her medical degree from the Catholic University of Guayaquil, Ecuador. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY- Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Rheumatology Fellowship training at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Her research on heart rate variability in lupus erythematosus patients won her the Henry Christian Award by the American Federation for Clinical Research. At Kings County Hospital Center, she served in several leadership positions including Senior Associate Directorship and as a Physician Advisor to Hospital Quality Reporting to major regulatory agencies including State Department of Health, American Heart Association and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Dr. McFarlane’s commitment to improving the quality of care to our community was acknowledged by Health and Hospitals Corporation of the City of New York/ Kings County Hospital Center where she won the Doctor’s Day Award in 2010.
Dr. McFarlane uses clinical research and other scholarly activities as a platform for teaching, training and career advancement of our students, residents and fellows. She provides high quality care that is compassionate, culturally sensitive and evidence-based to patients with various types of rheumatologic disorders including, Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Gout, Osteoarthritis and several other other diseases. She is fluent in English and native Spanish speaker.
